Participation policy

(adopted May 30, 2002)

All Members of Old Town In Town Cooperative are required to participate in maintaining the cleanliness and appearance of our buildings as outlined in the Governing Documents of the Cooperative.

Each building and its Members are responsible for assigning specific tasks to each unit.

Ways to participate

Monitoring

Each Member needs to complete and sign off on their task each week. This sign off must be check by another Member of the cooperative to ensure that the task was completed. This verification must be done by a Member who does not reside in the same unit. Monitoring by this “buddy system” enables Members to ensure that all tasks are being completed.

Tasks are then monitored by the Old Town In Town management office through the use of the checklists that are posted in all building and maintained by the membership.

These checklists are posted in each building. When a Member finishes their assigned task each week, they should initial it and ask a neighbor to initial in the column adjacent after verifying the chore was completed.

Special projects

Each unit is required to participate in at least one group event each year. Examples include: yard projects, clean up work, yard sales, newsletters, etc.

Consequence for non-participation

If a Member fails to comply with the requirements of participation, the Member is assessed a $35 fine. This fine will be assessed for each week of non-participation.

Fines are assessed by the Cooperative management office. Contested fines must be in writing withing 10 days of notification and submitted to the office at Old Town In Town for review by the Board of Directors. Members that consistently do no participate may be subject to termination of their Membership of the Cooperative at the discretion of the Board of Directors.
